When I was commissioned to write Addiction in the Family, I wanted it to be the guidebook I never had when I first faced the tribulations of addiction. Writing during Covid took on a whole new meaning. I was writing a book during an unprecedented time of lockdowns, zoom schools, massive unemployment, travel restrictions, masks, racial tensions, etc. Never before had people been so scared or so restricted. Not only would I be writing about how to navigate addiction and mental health, I was watching an uptick in family problems and an overall increase in alcohol and other drug use and a surge in anxiety and depression.
Suddenly we find ourselves in a world where our sleep has been disturbed and we are filled with decision fatigue and re-entry anxiety.
